Well, somebody's been listening to a lot of Black Sabbath, haven't they? Truth be told, though the Ozzman cometh now and again, this is mostly straight-up, no-frills, tuneful - yep, I said tuneful - grindcore/metal that sacrifices macho posturing at the altar of the intellect. The Slipknot and Sepultura influence is readily identifiable, though the foursome strikes a decent balance between old- and nu-skool styling. Dook only lose their lustre when they all back on the tried, true and totally transparent trademarks of the death-metal scene: aimless bar-chording played for fashion rather than feeling, and those overcooked, i-am-Satan-hear-my-evil type vocals. Fortunately for Dook, that's the exception rather than the rule (though there still may be an over-reliance on vocal distortion). At seven tracks, an encouraging and well-aimed first kick at the can.
